A Perfect Cricle گروهی که توسط موسس گروه خوب Tool یعنی Maynard James Keenan شکل گرفت. گیتاریست گروه هم Billy Howerdel یعنی اولین گیتاریست گروه Tool بود. A Perfect Circle در حقیقت یک ادامه ای بر Alternative Metal و Rock بود که در اوایل دهه 90 توسط Tool به خوبی شنا سانده شده بود. با همان قدرت و حزن که در کارهای خود Tool هم به چشم میخورد.
اما ویژگی بارز در A Perfect Circle پیش رفتن هر چه بیشتر به سمت Melodic بودن و کاستن از تاریکی کار در Tool . این کار رو افزودن صداهای شاید نه چندان آشنا ساز به ترکیب آهنگها انجام دادن و این کار در نهایت کیفیت و تکنیک انجام شد.

Keenan به Howerdel و Paz Lenchantin پیوست برای تشکیل گروه A Perfect Circle . Keenan قبلا با Howerdel در سال 1992 و در کنسرت گروه Tool آشنا شده بود. Keenan قبلا بسیاری از آهنگهای وی رو کار کرده بود و این آشنایی راهی برای همکاری آنها در آینده پیش رو گذاشت.
این فرصت همکاری برای آنها بوجود آمد و این زوج 4 نفری که متشکل از Troy Van Leeuwen ( عضو سابق Enemy ) و Josh Freese ( عضو سابق Guns N' Roses ) بودند گروه رو تشکیل دادند ، اما خبر آن جایی پخش نشد تا اینکه گروه اولین در 15 آگوست سال 1999 به اجرای کنسرت پرداختند. Howerdel که سالها آهنگ سازی کرده بود کار ساخت آهنگها رو به دست گرفت و در سال 2000 اولین کار گروه عرضه شد.

Mer de Noms نام این آلبوم بود. صدای زیبا ، حزن انگیز و احساسی Keenan کار رو کاری زیبا و قوی ارائه کرد. کار واقعا قوی Keenan در آهنگ Judith وی رو به عنوان یکی از بهترین و قوی ترین Vocal ها معرفی میکنه. آهنگی که به عقیده کارشناسان نقطه عطفی در زندگی هنری وی به حساب میاد. استفاده از violin و ارنجمنت قویه سازهای Lenchantin که فضایی احساسی رو القا میکرد، و درام قوی که Josh Freese به خوبی اجرا کرد این آلبوم رو بهترین کار گروه رقم زد.
در سال 2001 آلبوم 3 Libras رو عرضه کردند که چندان قوی ظاهر نشد و در سال 2003 آلبوم Thirteenth Step رو روانه بازار کردند.

در آلبوم Thirteenth Step ساختار گروه دستخوش تغییرات فراوان شد ، اما صدای بی نقص Keenan همراه گروه بود. اما با این تغییرات همچنان موسیقی خاص Tool و A Perfect Circle همراه گروه بود. ریفهای زیبای گیتار ، خوانندگی قوی ، Bass Line های زیبا و فضای زیبای آهنگ سازی کار رو قوی و قوی تر میکنه. تکنیک ، شعر و حس زیبایی در کارهای آلبوم موج میزنه. حسی که A Perfect Circle رو هر چه بیشتر به سمت Melodic بودن پیش برده. گروه هر چه بیشتر از تاریکی Tool کاسته و به Melodic بودن اون کمک کرده. کاری که به خوبی Keenan و باقی اعضای گروه از پیش بر آمدن.
